We graduated from the East Central Synod Wisconsin Lay School of Ministry 25 years ago this spring. Denise attended to gain more insights into the Good News of the Bible to help support and shape her play and work in clown ministry. Rick wanted to add to his Bible knowledge to be able to more confidently facilitate small group Bible studies. We both wanted to learn more about worship in order to help design a contemporary service. Lay school classes helped us accomplish these goals. And we gained so much more! Over the years, we have found that we are more open to trying new ideas, listening for the Holy Spirit’s leading and seeing others as God’s beloved.
Â
Are there things that you feel you are good at that could be used to bring God’s love to life? But you are not sure where to start? Or maybe you would like to have more knowledge about the church itself: the Bible, the history of the church, the liturgy, theology, faith and spirituality and how these all intersect.
Â
Guess what! Lay School has an absolutely free opportunity for you to attend classes at no charge and with no obligation, during March and April. In March you could sample classes on Friday evening March 14th or Saturday morning, March 15th. In April you can attend on Friday evening, April 11th or Saturday morning, April 12th. You may join courses either virtually or in person. For more information on class times and subjects or to sign up go to : layschool@ecsw.org.
Â
And right now, you can actually try a course or courses in person, by attending right here at Christ the King. (Just like we did, 25 years ago. Back in the olden days!)
Here’s a list of more recent Lay School graduates in case you’d like a bit more up to date information: Kristen Braatz, Rhonda Oestreich, Susan Kerzisnik, Julie Meitzen, Judy Ruhl, Tina Kopiske, Jeff Otto, Jim Weyers, Nate Card, and Mari Card.
